The rechargeable Ni-Cd battery is rated for approximately 500 recharge cycles. One recharge cycle generally means the battery has been discharged during emergency operation and then recharged. Under normal conditions, the battery does not need to be replaced on a fixed schedule based only on age. Because emergency power outages are usually infrequent, reaching 500 full cycles can take many years. We recommend periodically testing the emergency function and replacing the battery when it can no longer provide the required emergency runtime.
In short, 500 cycles is the battery's rated cycle life, not a requirement to replace it after a specific number of years. Actual battery life will depend on usage, operating temperature, and charging conditions.
